“We are especially proud that Virginia became the first state component of the National Dental Association, further cementing our society’s historic role in advancing organized dentistry and advocating for equity and inclusion within the profession and our communities.”

Welcome!

On behalf of our officers and dedicated members, I am honored to welcome you to our online community. As President of the Society, I am proud to represent an organization, founded in 1913, committed to advancing excellence in dentistry, fostering professional growth, and serving the oral health needs of our communities.

Our Society was established during a time when minority dentists were not accepted into organized dentistry through the ADA. In response to those barriers, visionary dental professionals came together to create an organization that would support, uplift and provide opportunities for minority dentists while ensuring quality oral healthcare for underserved communities. Their courage, perseverance, and commitment laid the foundation for the strong and enduring Society we proudly continue today.

We are especially proud that Virginia became the first state component of the National Dental Association, further cementing our society’s historic role in advancing organized dentistry and advocating for equity and inclusion within the profession and our communities.

Whether you are a member, student, colleague or visitor, we hope this website serves as a valuable resource and a reflection of our mission and history. We invite you to explore our initiatives and events and to learn more about the impact the ODDS continues to make throughout our communities and the profession.

Thank you for visiting and for your interest in our Society. We look forward to building upon our rich legacy while inspiring future generations of dental professionals.

Warm regards,
Sonya L. Thomas-Webb DDS
